| Publication Policy |
| |
The SLWS will publish first-time
and established authors.
The SLWS will commission the writing of manuscripts for textbooks
to be used in Sierra Leone as well as in the West African region.
The SLWS will focus on books that have the potential to be included
in the school/training college/university curricula as textbooks.
It is therefore imperative that all books undergo a rigorous
but helpful peer-review process.
When the SLWS commissions the writing of a manuscript, it will
provide the necessary support to the author(s) and will pay
a royalty to the author based on the conditions of the Africa
Future Publishers.
The SLWS will consider unsolicited manuscripts in all
subject areas from authors
wishing to publish in the series. However, such authors
will most likely be required to pay a subvention towards the
publication of their books. The amount to be paid as subvention
depends on the size of the book, the specific format and design
wished by the author and the number of author's copies required.
Despite this, our prices are very reasonable. It
should be noted that books will be published based on their
potential to be sold. Contracts signed between author and
publisher will reflect this. Please visit the Africa
Future Publishers for a sample contract. |

| Important Note For Authors |
| |
| You may be aware
that in terms of sales of books, especially novels, the number
of people who can buy them in Sierra Leone is small. The wider
a readership your book can speak to, the better it will be for
you and for the SLWS. The SLWS will do its best to ensure that
your book is widely read by your own people! If you are a first-time
author, we must caution you against expecting to make much money
from your work. Established authors know that most times what
you earn from your writing, especially for a market like the
Sierra Leonean one, will be peanuts compared with your salary
or other sources of income. We would encourage you to evaluate
your rewards of authorship in personal, psychological terms. |
